Wedding and Prom Nails: A Timeline That Works
Book the appointment three to four weeks before the date, have the set done two to three weeks out, and keep one slot free the week of for a fill or a repair. The week-of appointment is the one that sells out first everywhere.
The timeline
- Six to eight weeks out: if you have never worn enhancements, get a set now. This is the trial, and it tells you what you can actually live with.
- Three to four weeks out: book the appointments. Both of them — the main set and the touch-up.
- Two to three weeks out: the set goes on. Long enough that it looks settled in photographs, short enough that the regrowth is invisible.
- The week of: a fill, a repair or nothing at all. Keep the slot either way.
- The day before: not the day of. Nothing about a wedding morning improves by adding an appointment to it.
Why the week-of slot matters
Nails break. Not often, but often enough that on any given wedding or prom weekend somebody in Boone County is calling around at four in the afternoon looking for a repair. A slot booked three weeks earlier costs nothing to keep and solves the problem entirely. If nothing has gone wrong, we tidy the cuticles and refresh the top coat, and you look better in the photographs anyway.
What to choose
For weddings, the most photographed choice remains a short-to-medium pink & white or a soft baby boomer fade. Both read as polished rather than done, neither dates in an album, and both grow out cleanly if the honeymoon is long.
For prom, the range is wider and the constraint is different: a set has to survive a school day, a dress fitting and a night of dancing. Coffin at a moderate length holds up. Stiletto photographs beautifully and loses at least one nail by midnight, which we will tell any seventeen-year-old plainly and honestly.
Bridal parties and groups
Groups are a scheduling question rather than a service question. Four people need four technicians or a longer window, and Saturday afternoons in April and May do not have either unless it was arranged weeks earlier. Call, tell us the number and the date, and we will build the block.
One thing that makes group appointments run: decide the shape and length as a group beforehand and let colors vary. Shape is what takes the time; color does not.
The local calendar to plan around
Three windows fill our book solid every year: prom season across Boone County High School, Cooper and Conner in April; Derby week in early May; and the run-up to the Boone County Fair in early August. Villa Hills, Union and Independence families are booking Saturdays two to three weeks ahead through all three.
If your date sits in one of them, book earlier than this page says. If it does not, three to four weeks is comfortable. Either way, the appointment goes in when the dress is bought — the color can be decided in the chair.
